Is this the right driveshaft

I got a front driveshaft yesterday in the mail from someone on this forum. We talked and i asked him if it was a 96-98 5.2 quadradrive zj and he told me yes. But I just want to make sure this is the right one.

While it is possible, 96 is one of the "border" years where they started switching things around. Most of the ZJ's later than 96 had a grease-filled rubber boot style CV joint at the pinion. The one you pictured is u-jointed (which is more desirable if you wheel). You are also missing an end cap on the pinion u-joint.

Crawl under you jeep to see what style yoke you have at your pinion. If it is U-joint style, you are good to go

3 different ones were used.. I cant believe you bought something before looking under your jeep to see what yours looked like.

well i went and looked on my pinion and it has a circular disk. Looks like some screws could go in it. SO this driveshaft wont work will it?

well through some research i found out it will not work. And I did research before i bought it but where i read it from it made it seem like that 93-94 are the same, 95 is the border year and 96-98 is the same. Obviously i was wrong. Well They guy i bought it from still has the driveshaft. It was twisted so i cant use that one. Could i take both to a driveshaft shop and get them to take the end off one and put it on the other?

You probably have a cv joint at the tcase end, and a ujoint at the differential end.

what is wrong with your currect driveshaft??? You know you can get them rebuilt.

i had the drive shaft like he has above, and the slip yoke seized because the boot ripped, on the trails im pretty sure.. so it would be more to rebuild mine over a CV style
