Reverse Lights Don't Work

So my reverse lights haven't worked since I bought my 5.9. I figured they were blown or something, so I just decided to buy new LED replacements. Well the old bulbs looked fine, and the new LEDs didn't fix my issue.

My turn signals work, so I'm assuming it's not fuse related.

I'm thinking it's the NSS. My question is..

What are the two differences between these two? They look different and the price difference is pretty big.

$12: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...882&cc=1315953

$200: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...904&cc=1315953

What exactly do I need to replace the NSS?

I personally would check the voltage first..get a voltage reader and hook it up to the sockets to the reverse bulb..then if they arent working start with the fuses. If those are fine get replacement sockets from a junk yard..jmo

Alright, I'll try that first. If I need a new NSS, am I looking for one that looks like the $200 one? If it's the $12 one, I'd much rather buy it online since between my work schedule and the cold weather, I'd rather not go to the JY now lol.

You'll need the $12 NSS.

The NSS has a contact for the reverse lights. When you shift to reverse, contact is made and lights turn on. I believe for the XJ you need the expensive one. For the ZJ you get the less expensive one.

Check your vehicle for the one you have. The XJ is on the left side and ZJ is on the right side. I believe that is right. If you do have the expensive one you might try cleaning and or adjusting. There are a lot of how to's on this model. They also show the wiring for testing. The other is a remove and replace.

You should have electrical power to the switch. Then with tranny in reverse you should have power back to the sockets.

Sorry, I just retread and caught the 5.9 which is the ZJ. So you do need the less expensive one.

Hooray! haha So when you say right or left side, that's essentially driver/passenger side on the tranny? I've never done anything with a transmission and I don't want to unplug the wrong thing. But the NSS should be on the right/passenger side of the tranny?

Thanks

So I just found out my reverse light actually work. But they only come on when I'm shifted slightly out of reverse. The orange square next to the shifter is in between reverse and park, and they come on and I can still move backwards. But when I'm completely shifted into reverse, they don't come on.

NSS?

So an adjustment with the NSS? Just came loose or something? Or with the shifter?
