Replacing fuel door release cable

Well first off, hello. Based on my name, you can see I'm not a jeeper myself, but agreed to help a friend out. He has a 95 GC and his fuel door release cable seems to have broken. So he's been driving around with the fuel door open for the past couple of months. Anyway, he's got the new cable. Just wondered if anyone had any tips or had done this procedure before. I've searched here, but didn't find any results. Anyone know how much of a PITA this is gonna be? I haven't looked at it to see if it's routed through the cabin or underneath the rig even. Anyone who's done this, I would be delighted to hear any tips you might be able to offer. Thanks!

-Kyle

Welcome, I can't help directly, but that should be in the factory service manual (FSM) for the '95. I belive the cable release fuel door was discontinued in 96 and its not mentioned in the '97 fsm.

Well, thanks for the welcome and the advice. I unfortunately don't have a FSM, I would imagine however it would be in there. Thanks for checking yours.

It's not on the '96's either, but the bosses are there. I believe the cable is routed internally, and that in order to reach the area you want (back of the filler door area) you are going to have to remove the spare tire and the body trim panel. In order to remove the body trim panel, you have to remove the top and bottom trim pieces at the liftgate, the upper pieces of the 'B' and 'C' pillars, the rubber bumpers behind the spare tire (10mm socket) and the philips head screws holding the 'D' rings in.

Thanks! I kinda imagined that would be the direction I'd be going (interior panels). I do appreciate it.
