Replacement Armored Brake Line
The armored front-to-rear brake line on my 94 Grand Cherokee failed. It is not available from the dealership. The local shops would fabricate this, but without the armor.

An on-line search revealed Fine Lines would re-create the original, in either steel w/ stainless spiral wrap or stainless w/ stainless wrap.

A Dremel cutter wheel, at an angle, resulted in an acceptable shipping box length, for sending it to Fine Lines. I also painted one side, prior to the cut, to ensure proper orientation.

The replacement line arrived and I am very satisfied. I selected stainless line w/ stainless wrap. The Jeep uses metric fittings, so this is compatible with MB vehicles. It needed to have the shipping bend straightened and some other minor shipping smoothing.

Old Line - Master Cylinder End

New Line - Master Cylinder End

Old Line - Axle End

New Line - Axle End

The stainless brake line with stainless armor has been installed.

The brake line was close to the original, but it still required a coupla hours to change the shape to match the original.

Thank goodness I took LOTS of shots of the original. The images were captured at multiple orientations and angles. I would match my view of the new line to that on the image, then adjust the line 'till it matched.

Even with the tweaks required, I am still very satisfied with the service and the product.

The only problem was the rotational mis-registration between the front and back ends. My recommendation is to use the Dremel wheel to score a longitudal mark, along the brake line, prior to the cut, to ensure a better rotational match of the ends.

They also have replacement heat shield, that I did not utilize. I had them re-use the original.

I will definitely keep them in mind. I'm considering replacing all my brake lines and hoses, so this was very helpful. Thanks.

For the rear, the long line from the ABS to the axle hose is the only one not available from the dealership. The two armored lines on the axle and the axle hose were obtained from the dealer.

So far, my front on mine are fine.

Cool, thanks. Good to know. Mine probably don't need it, but I'm just crazy about keeping everything with the brakes in good shape. I had a line fail on the highway once and from then on have had a sort of crusade against brake failure on my vehicles. Some of my lines have a few rust spots starting, so it's time to look at replacement for me.

That is an option. This information shows how to replace the factory armor brake line with armor brake line. This is the only source I found. As previously stated, I would recommend this company to others.

A replacement steel or stainless brake line, without the armor, will work just fine.

@ work we sell Fine Lines, Right Stuff, and In-line Tube. call the other two and see what they say. "usually", if they currently do not offer a replacement, they will use your line to build a part# off of and ship you the first set for free.

all 3 companies are top notch and well sell thousands of $$$$ worth of each each month.

if you need a good contact at each company i can hook ya up.

cutting isn't really neededfor shipping. if you can just put a good u-bend in the line and mark it, that will allow them to streighten it out in a fashionable manor. That's how fine lines ships the F>R fuel and brake lines.

Can you confirm if the flare fitting where the line connects at the front to the ABS Pump is a double-flared or a bubble-flare?

Yes all three fittings off the pump are bubble flares. NAPA sells fittings to convert the bubble to flare so you can make all the lines yourself. Be aware tho that all 3 fittings are a different least they were on mine.

Well here I am again about to replace the Front brake well as the entire rusted out axle assembly. (Control arms ripped out the brackets).

So what the heck was Chrysler thinking when they ran the front passenger line up the firewall BEHIND the panel at the ECU????

Crazy routing. This is going to be a pain in the arse.

I'm so confused! I have a 94 ZJ 4.0 and need to replace the hardline from the rear but can't see where it goes up into the engine bay so where exactly does it go, to the ABS or to the MC? If to the ABS which line is it? Thanx

Goes to the ABS but I don't know which one it is.

This is a good option for individuals I guess. Much quicker for me to just build my own line though since I have the flaring tool.
