Removing the VIC?

Hey guys...is it a good idea to remove the VIC? Or should it be left alone?
I am just curious, as I could see using that space for a heck of a lot more than what the VIC does (besides chime at me and tell me the coolant sensor is bad).
Any thoughts on this? If you have taken the VIC out...can you show us all what you put in its place please?
Thanks!

Probably half of the zj owners have removed their VIC. I'm sure if you did a quick search of like vic removal there would be a ton of hits while you wait for pics.

A lot make it a chubby hole or a place for aftermarket switches.

The vic is totally independent of the rest of the jeep so pulling it is no problemo. You can find (maybe) a storage cubby to go in it's place from an early 2wd ZJ. A lot of people put in a switch plate for lights/accessories. Some cb's will fit but there isn't a hell of a lot of depth there.

My favorite is Dyn0mitemat's switch panel, in his build thread. Very clean looking. I've seen people mount switches by drilling through the vic. I don't remember who got a cb to fit, I know some are too deep to fit in the space. Seems a bit low to me for a gps, would be blocked by the shifter I would think.

I don't have any other pictures of it. It is a Lund console. I got it off eBay for like 40$ it's one like they use In cop cars. To make the mount for it you have to delete the e brake lever and use the mount for the lever to build off of for the console.

I just got a 2WD Cubby to put in mine. I just took out the glove box to get to it, and removed it.

I just snagged a cubby last week, plan to install it in place of my dead vic soon, probably will be another week as it's low on my priority list.
