Remanufactured or junkyard durango swap?

I am doing the box swap today, is it better to get a reman from autozone(durango 99, 4x4, v8, without plow) or get a junkyard durango one?

I would go with the reman or see if I could get a brand new one. Just one less thing to worry about that way. Do they make a rebuild kit for it? That would probably be a pretty solid option as well if they do.

I did a JY one lasted for a couple weeks then developed a ton of play. I adjusted it worked for a week or so then came back. Needless to say i have a remaned now. And its been good for months

I've read all over when I was looking to do mine, and the remanufactured boxes just get new seals and they're back out the door in most cases. Either get a junkyard one or get a new one imo

there's two adjustments.
i'm using a junkyard dakota box right now actually. more turns lock to lock than i wanted, but it was cheap and lasted longer on 35's than my stock box did.

remanufactured boxes don't replace the sector shaft, there aren't replacements to my knowledge. if it's worn, it's junk. but many companies throw seals and o-rings at it and hope the customer gets past warranty time on it.

Well I still have play with a JY box from a durango. But there's less.

I'm using one of these:

Red-Head steering box reman process

Everything is nice and tight, no play. I think they can do custom ratios too. But they are pricey next to the parts house remans.

Good luck with yours.

I am replacing my weak oem SS, because my steering doesn't return to center that quick and I feel bumps in the road . Yes my linkage is parallel. Gonna get a aftermarket stabilizer and that should tighten it up a little

how hard is it to rebuild? My junkyard durango box still has slop... Im replacing the SS today just to get rid of a little of the wandering, if any.

i dont know if it would be worth taking back to the junkyard (30 day warranty) because a new box is 500 bucks anyway and i cant afford that.
