refinishing alloy wheels

anyone done this yet? my 93 saw blades are cloudy from wheel "cleaners" i have used.

i would like to restore the finish.

is the cleanr coat coming off,?I started this project once and relised it was a huge daunting task and gave up then bought soft 8s. you need to remove the clear coat before you do anything then you need polish and polish then polish some more, then give up.

so media blast them and then repaint??? whats the big deal???? u talking about the honeycomb style wheels?

you can sand blast them but it will dull the finish you will still need to buff them Saw blades are prob easier to do then mine. have you sonsidered painting them? Post up pics if you can

Aircraft stripper will remove the clear coat. It's nasty stuff though...

when i had my '94 i wire-wheeled all the chrome off my honey comb rims, repainted some spots of gold, and then put clear coat on them. never got a chance to mount them as i was using other jeep rims, but i know i will never do it again. took way too long, was a ***** trying to not let the drill slip and strip the gold off, and not cost effective at all.
