Reese Hitch...sits too low??? need hitch pictures please!

I just installed the Reese Hitch on my 96 ZJ. It sits REALLY low, i even took off the fuel tank skid plate to make it higher, which i will reinstall.

But the receiver is about 4 inches from the bottom of the bumper....thats terrible.

Can someone post pics of their stock hitch or aftermarket hitches?

Heres a couple pics i snapped. It looks terrible. I'm going to try to return it for the hide away one or a stock one

Yeah I'd ditch that and go for an OEM one from the junkyard, the 96-98 ones are hidden behind the bumper with just the reciever tube showing, I have a 93-95 one which looks like yours but the reciever tube goes through the frame/crossmember thingy. I like it because I'll drag on it before i drag the bumper on the ground.

but yeah, universal hitches sort of look poopy.

Alright, this thing goes back to Pep Boys tomorrow, paid $130 for it.

How much should I expect to pay for a factory hitch.

I bought mine for $50 from someone on here, but the hitch plug box was taken off. I only plan on using mine as a rear recovery point though, or maybe to shuttle a trailer a short distance, so no big deal.

I just scored one last week from a local yard. OEM out the gate for $22.00. I even found another Jeep last week with another one and was able to get the OEM wiring harness for it with a 7 prong to 4 prong adapter for free. I have not installed it yet, but this weekend it's supposed to be above freezing.

BTW: All GC's are prewired on the driver's side behind the spare tire panel for the OEM harness. You just have to pop out a small plug and feed it up from underneath and plug it in. Done.

How about turning the center section over like I did with the one on the front of my Jeep.

Yes, it bolts on over the factory skid plate if you have one. I found one of those too, just haven't had time to put it on.

I was in a hurry to install my receiver hitch because we were expecting (and got) about 8 inches of snow and I needed something to hook a tow strap on to.

Do they even make a front hitch for a ZJ?

I don't see how you would mount it with the front skid (if you have one) and the sway bar in the way.
