Rear wiper motor, $150

My rear wiper motor took a crap. Called NAPA and they said $156+$7 shipping and 7 days to get it.

I ordered from dealer, $150, no shipping and be in Monday. They make them with plastic gears so they will break and then charge you an arm and a leg for the remanufactured one.

If you don't have time to do it right the first time, how do you have time to do it over.

Advance Auto Parts has a remanufactured one, with a lifetime warranty for $61.48 on their web site... what's the warranty on the dealer part?

Everytime I go to Napa for something they are not much cheaper than the dealer. Not sure why but around here they seem to be the highest priced place to buy parts.

Still odd that it was more expensive though. Good thing you called and checked

I know on the ZJ water gets in there and causes it to sieze up. I kept oiling it right at the end of the arm and it began to work again.

I don't know how it is on the newer ones but on my 96 I was able to disassemble the motor, clean and lube the shaft bore, reassemble it, and the motor was back in action.

Its a common problem for Jeep's rear wiper motor to seize due to rust on the motor shaft. There is a good writeup floating around (try searching in the XJ section, its very common there)

You might be able to salvage your old one if thats the problem.

No salvage, the gears were stripped. I went to AutoZone's web site and found one there for $62. I am going to stop today and see if they have one in stock. If so I htink I will not pick the one up at the dealer and just get my money back if I can.
