Rear Rotor Removal help
 
I cant seem to get these rotors to come off!! IS there a trick to removing them?

I had problems getting mine off as well, they were rusted on a bit. I just gave them some loving taps.

make sure the parking brake is clear and as mentioned before a big hammer

A LONG pry bar with a good hit of the hammer 180 deg from where the pry bar is.

well theres only one area you can hit the back of the rotor, because of the dust sheild. I tried a pry bar in between the rotor and caliper braket bolt holes, nothin! I"m gonna try a heaver hammer this weekend.

Don't hit the back of the rotor. you might damage the rotor surface. I used a hammer and hit the front of the rotor where the wheel touches the brake rotor...in between the wheels studs. It will loosen alto of rust then maybe a pry bar too.

I dont care if it damages the rotor, I have a new one. I just need to get the old one off! Its an 04 WJ

If that is the case, simply hit the rotor harder with a mini sledge. Since you dont have to be careful, just keep whacking it.
Also when i replaced mine on friday, I sprayed PB blaster on the front by the lug nuts, and when the rotor came off i noticed the PB had penetrated itself all the way around to the middle part of the rotor. So im sure that helped.

If the rotor has broken loose from the axle and feels 'springy' when you try to pull it off and it snaps back on, then the park brake shoes are holding them on. A rust ridge builds up on the edge of the braking surface area and keeps the rotor from sliding off over the shoes. Eventually you'll pull the park brake shoe retaining pins through the backing plate and that aint good.
So IF THEY ARE LOOSE from the axle already and just don't want to slide off more than a few MM, you need to un-adjust them through the access slot in back of the backing plate. Kinda tricky, and if you turn the star wheel one way and it locks the rotor from spinning, that must be tightening, so go the other way.
If thats whats holding them, they'll just about fall off after the unadjustment.

If it's just rusted to the axle, yeah give it hell. I've broken rotors to pieces trying to break them loose, they can be tight.

ya, its not the pads holding it, its definatly rusted on there.

apply heat to the area between the studs where it is rusted on. Once its heated , use a good hammer and hit all around. it will come off, but be careful, its hot.
