Rear end questions

With the 8.8 i got, it's either going to have 3.73 or 4.10 right? can i use the axle as is and drop my front drive shaft until i get the matching gear for the front axle since my gears 3.55?

Yes, you are correct but what you "should" do is pick up a hp 30 front out of an xj and build that with gears to match the 8.8 before you go ahead with just the 8.8 rear swap and pull driveshaft which would leave you without 4 wheel drive going into winter season.
I realize its easier said than done, especially on a jeepers budget, but if you get your front setup first without having the pressure of getting it all back together with new gear set in one night and youd have the stronger hp 30 right away
Just my 2 cent....the 8.8 swap is a bit of a chore as well...everything ive read, having the 8.8 swap hardware weld kit is worth every penny

At least thats my plan when i finally win the lottery, sell a kidney, liver, or lung. Or if and when i blow up my dana 35 which wont be long seeing as i just put on 33's
My guess ill get sick of the slow *** gearing and want the 8.8 for the 4.10 and limited slip

I am not going to do it untill spring time and i got a friend with an xj or 3 sitting in his driveway lol. I actually got the whole truck, a 1997 ford explorer xlt awd to take whatever i want from it hehehe. So i can probably trade something out of the exploder for a front axle. Also will i need to replace my booster or the brake fluid reservoir?

I just put an 8.8 in my 97 grand. I didnt have to do **** with my brakes. I pulled my 8er from a 97 exploder as well. Do you have disks or drums currently on your zj?

Rotors, calipers, pads, and Ebrake components all were interchangeable between my zj and the exploder. Im not sure about earlier model zj's though. Im like 99% sure that its all gonna be the same.

I love it. I got an Artec truss for it. Installing it was a breeze. All my mounts lined up perfectly. It ALL went a lot easier then I thought. Its def a bigger endeavor but its really not too bad. And as far as performance goes its well worth it. I have tons of confidence in it and cant wait to get some bigger tires on it. Get a good dif cover for it too. Stock=trash

Yeah its a piece of foil essentially. Perfect for on road use. Mine had a big *** hole punched in it from the yard too so it was useless

some exploders came with 3.55s too.
do you know what gearing yours has? pull the cover, it will be stamped on the ring gear.

if it has 3.73s i'd swap another diff in there with 3.73s. if you have one with 4.10s, i'd swap the gears up front.

if it has 3.55s swap it in.
