The rear drive shaft...stupid question.

I picked up a 242 at the JY over the weekend. It's out of a 96 zj loredo with the I6 (of course.) It's going into my 98 5.2 zj this weekend to replace the 249. I already know I have to swap out the input, because the 242 has the shorter one on it. The "new" Tcase also has the exposed tailshaft as opposed to the enclosed one on my 249.
I also grabbed the rear drive shaft from the doner zj. Assuming it's the right length can I use my old drive shaft? The jy one has a dent in it about the size of a quarter. bleh. (and I would be kinda nice get my $30 back if I don't have to use it.) I ask, because, I want to know if I will have to take apart that u-joint and swap the end (the yoke?) if I want to use my current drive shaft. Is there any difference (besides the possibility of difference in length.) between them considering they go with an with exposed vs enclosed output on the case. I hope I am making sense here. Be nice, I'm learning as I go.

you will have to use the dented shaft or have your current shaft shortened.

Thanks sandman. I guess I will just have to get that free drive shaft made for me by my brother in law's buddy.

Now to figure out what to tell him to make me...
