Rear diff leaking question

anyone make something better than the rubber plug for the rear end of a 97 grand cherokee??? and aftermarket cover with a true drain plug??? or just put some silicone sealent around it????

I put some RTV sealant around mine.

i supposed if you have some fabrication skills, time and tools you can weld a bung into it, or find a pre-fab bung that just requires drilling and fastening/sealing into the existing cover.

i hear you, i keep putting off changing diff. fluid because i don't want to deal with the mess. but a fluid change is a good excuse to open them up and inspect the internals from time to time.

Only problem with the silicone is that when you go to check the level, you break the seal and the leak is back. I guess you just have to clean the plug and put new sealant on it.
