Rear axle identification

Can anyone ID my rear axle. The build sheet says it is a D44 but it doesn't have a metal drain plug which I have heard is a way to ID the D44.

D44?

Thanks

David

Not fair! I want a CRD WJ! I wish I could at least drive one to compare it...

Does anyone know why it has the "WG" body code over the pond?

The European GC's are built in Graz, Austria hence WG.

I really like my CRD as much power as the I6, more torque (even more than the V8 I think) and 25 mpg.

You can check to see if its a D44 or D44a because the case of the D44a is aluminium and non-magnetic where the D44 is iron and a magnet will stick to it. I guess it is possible that you do have an iron D44 case. If so all the aftermarket goodies sould go right in (Detroit locker, trutrack...)

If you tell us that it is Iron we will be even more Green with envy
