R.I.P Jeep ZJ

The other night on the drive home from work there was a bang then smoke so i pulled over thinking it was just a blown tire but whe i checked all my tires were good and when i looked under my jeep my transfer case was pouring oil and was in 2 pieaces and to be honest i was a little bit pissed and i was still quite far away so i had tried to disconnect the front drive shaft and when i couldnt get the bolts off i just drove it for about 10 kilometers and then my transmission blew but i was at the top of a hill so i just coasted down and then the front driveshaft slipped out and the tranny basically fell out of the case and then i had to be towed home so i figure its gonna cost more to fix then its worth

That's tough man... You could get a used tranny & t-case for under $1,000 tho... But if you don't want to go that route, you could just part out the stuff that's good, & junk the rest.

From the pictures it doesn't look like the transmission is broken, that's all transfer case.

You do realize that when the transfer case splits in two you're gonna have a whole lot of neutral even if the transmission is fine, right?

Why would you continue to drive after you saw the t-case cracked into 2 pieces?

Because it's worth a thousand bucks to avoid a 90 minute walk? If the OP was American I could totally understand refusing to walk, but always thought canadians were into healthier lifestyles.

its Saskatchewan...... you could walk for days to the next down....... lol.

swap the transfer case and drive it away.

your front driveshafts not broken, it just fell apart becauase you trasnfer case did.

easy fix, have you back on the road in 5 hours. 200$ for a 'new' used transfer case and call it good.

Might be a good idea to figure out why his TC broke apart. Stuck in 4WD Part Time due to mismatched tires?

Well first off the transfer case was in 2 completly different sections held together by only the chain, a tow truck would have costed $700 which i do not have atm, it happened at 11:00 at night, theres also 280,000 kilometers on my jeep and it would have been a 45 minute walk in the rain at night and last off if i dodnt remove it from the highway that night the cops would have towed to an impound lot another thing im only on a part time income i dont have time to fix it and who knows even if i fix it all whats gonna go next and the chain to the dif snapped like 2 mins later so the transfer wasnt even connected to the tranny so i dont under stand why the tranny went

We generally are. But seeing as he's a Flat-lander, I'm just surprised he managed to find a hill in Sask-a-bush.
Seriously though, I'm sorry you've had problems, I know what it feels like to lose a ZJ. Good luck.
