Quick Valve cover question.
I snapped off one of the bolt heads when changing my Valve cover gaskets today. Will it still seal ok?

I would venture to say not entirely well.

I just ran the engine up to temp and didn't spot any leaks. It's a rubber Fel-Pro, If I spot any leaks later can I just use an easy out and pop a bolt in?

On second thought, Is it safe to keep in there? It won't fall into the engine will it?

I'm confused on what broke exactly. Did it break down when you were tightening it?? If it is threaded it shouldn't fall out at all.

Yes, the head broke off of the bolt when I tightened it. So most of it is stuck in the engine.

so how would that fall out in your engine? ![]() try an easyout. or a reverse drillbit.

.... and be careful to not over-torque the bolts.
If you pull the valve cover off, there should be enough of the bolt shaft left to grab hold of with a vice grip or something so you can remove and replace with a new one.

I have a Haynes manual, and a torque wrench. Torque wrench was set for 10ft-lbs. I guess it's time for a new one.
I went out and loosened the bolts a little, I think I was tightening them down too much. I think I'll just let it be for now, if it starts leaking I'll take an easy-out to it. It's on the passenger side Valve cover, and I had to remove the A/C compressor to get the lines out of the way in order to remove it.
