Question about towing

I currently live in NY and i am going to NJ to pick up a mustang. I plan on bringing a tow dollie but id rather use a trailer. I was told my jeep isnt "heavy" enough to tow the mustang. My question is has anyone towed a car with their jeep using a tow dollie or even a trailer?

The car-'94 mustang gt
My Jeep-'04 Grand Cherokee Laredo Freedom, 4.7 HO

thanks in advance

I dont think you should have any problem at all towing the Stang. Especially with the V8 you have. I have towed my Porsche on an 18ft flat bed with my 4.0L I6 with no problem at all... only poor gas mileage, but thats a given. I do have the tow package though. Hope this helps some. -Joey Riley

The mustang should weigh between 3000-3500 lbs, and a normal 16ft trailer will weigh somewhere around 1500lbs. If you've got the tow package you'll be fine.
Come to think of it, does the factory tow package include provisions for electric trailer brakes? I know my 99 had a 7-round plug like you'd use with brakes, but I don't know that it was set up for them.

Anyway, the trailer should have some sort of brake - either electric (best) or surge brakes (ok). It would be best if you have a tranny cooler, but you could get away without it if you take it easy. Do not use overdrive.

OH Come on.....

Your Jeep will EASILY pull a car. Mine's rated at 6000 lbs.

with the tow package they're rated at 6000 trailer weight and 750 tongue weight.
But that includes a class 4 hitch, trailer wiring, and a tranny cooler.
If there aren't any mountain passes (not all that familiar with the geography you'll be crossing) you will want to make sure you've got trailer brakes. I can't stress that enough.
