Guy here locally is selling a set of 33 12.5 17s for 100 bucks with 5/32 tread left. Says he has another set of 315 70 17s in better condition as well.

Thinkin about em.

35's will be rough without a regear.

Also, went and picked up my wheels today. Eagle Alloy 137s.

Gonna go and look at those 33s tamorow.

Ken, you could spend $700 on an ARB, and $200 on the air compressor to have a locked dana 30, or spend about a thousand to $1500 bucks on a dana 44, with a lunchbox (or similar) and lockout hubs. AND then you have your stock D30 to sell. Just something to think about.

Can't really lunchbox the front with the 247...so he would need a new tc as well. Something I've been looking into though as well, being theres no SYE for it.

I was just going to say the same thing, that 247 is actually a hinderance in this respect. The crappy thing is I had the arb and shafts already, all I needed was to run the tap off the CO2 tank and I'd be done already, but noooo I had to go and sell it to buy a bigger lift

thats why I said lockout hubs/locking hubs/twist lock hubs. My d44 has lockout hubs, as alot do which when unlocked put ZERO power to the ground through the front no matter what. It would in effect turn the 247 into a 2wd so lucnbox or even a lincoln locker is a decent option.

Hahaha.

The guy I got my wheels from yesterday swapped a 242 into his WJ. 400 for the 242 and 90 for the DS from the Junkyard. How strong is the 242 compared to the 247, and to the 231?

From what i've heard, (and if I can remember correctly) the 247 has the largest chain, then the 242HD (only in V8 WJ) then the 231, and the regular 242 brings up hte rear...

Who the #$%# wants to get out of their car and lock the front hubs when you need 4wd, that $#%# is for Broncos...

It may not matter to some guys but if you drive on the street with snow, you dont want to have the front end locked up, but you still want power going to 1 of the wheels up there.

Unless all you see is the trail a selectable locker is a better way to go....but I do agree a axle upgrade up front would definately be a good idea.

Oppositely, I have a link saying the 2 means the number of ranges it has (hi & low), the middle number is the strength, and the 7 is the type of 4wd.
