Picked up my '96 5.2 Limited for $500, 223,xxx miles. It had/has some issues but nothing major:
Door hinge pins
Tranny cooler lines
Trans solenoid and governor
Regular maitenance- Tranny fluid, differential fluid, oil change, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, coolant flush, heater core flush and t-stat.

Paid $4000 for 98' Limited 4.0 with 167k on it. Was far from stock....4.56 gears, detroits front rear, 231 swap, 4.5" lift, 33" swamper boggers, 32" ATs to swap out, husky liner kit...all of which I was in some part helping my buddy build...truly I was more of the go'for but was there most times....
Since I acquired it...exhaust mod, intake swap, complete stereo installation, tinted glass, New shocks, New control arms, front and rear drive shafts with rear SYE, New 33" BFG AT KOs, all new brakes & rotors, and hopefully by New Years I install my newly built 8.8 with LSD and 4.56 G2s and Timken bearings.
1500$ CAD for mine, had 220k(130 miles?) on it a couple years ago. transfer case was pooched, AC needed a recharge. couple other little things but other than that ran really well. all the ectronic stuff worked too which is nice
I couldn't afford the monthly payment in 1996 in buying my 96 4.0 Laredo new for about $28,800. So went for a 3-year lease with a measly 12K miles per year max mileage allotment. Too many family trips to FL and ended up w/about $2K in additional mileage charges when the lease was over. Ended up buying it after the lease with a payment plan for another 3-4 years and have 195K miles on it.
Don't know why you guys buy these ZJ's used when you could pay $300-$350/per month new for about 7 years like I did? LOL, never again will I lease or buy new unless I hit the lottery.
$700 for my '97 4.0 Laredo, 173000 miles on the clock with a shot auto trans. Got about 2500-3000 into it now. Lol, although me & my brother rebuilt the motor I blew up 2weeks after I bought the Jeep in Apr. or May of 2011. It now has about 183k on the body (about 10k on the rebuilt motor) and also converted it to a 5-speed (AX-15) while the motor was beign rebuilt. It's a blast to drive & i'll probably have it for a very long time. Lol
