Power steering pump's.. all replacements are bad....

I replaced my mom's powersteering on the 4.0 a few months ago due hers making bad bearing noise.. It was fine for awhile now I noticed its dripping badly putting a puddle under the car when parked... The pump is from carquest its a remand pump.. Its under warranty and fairly easy to replace but that isnt the point.. The point is it shouldnt be leaking like this after a few months..

Same goes with my replacement on my 5.9, i replaced my old pump which was wearing out belts, cracked pully, leaking badly, and broken mounting bracket.. The new one from carquest was bad imediatly i had no power steering and it put metal shavings in my fluid.. So i got another and used 1 gallon of power steering fluid to flush out the steering box.. The new one works great but i noticed when changing my oil the other day its leaking as well, but not enough to put drips on the pavement...

What is the deal with powersteering pumps ?? Reviews from autozone and advance auto all have like 1-2 stars for them. So i went to carquest and aparently these are bad too... Is it simply an O ring that could be missing or what ? Thinking of taking it off and trying to find out where its coming from but id rather not im getting tired of working on these Jeeps.. I've doen so much to both this year.. On top of that the cv axles i replaced on my mom's 4.0 with yes carquest parts.. one of the boots is like all twisted now and the rubber wont form back to its original shape... It pisses me off... Luckily the new radiator isnt leaking.. yet

My issue with drips is from the steering gearbox. And did you replace your lines?

I purchased a napa remanned several months ago after seeing the AutoZone reviews. Mine has not leaked a drip. I also replaced all the lines, that may have helped.

All of the brands at the auto stores are a huge gamble. Most are put together with cheap Chinese parts and don't last long. Your best bet is to find a 99 Durango box w/o the snowplow connection or get a refurbed ZJ box. Maybe Crown has them. If you have to money the PSC is the way to go. I need to replace mine soon and after all the reading I have done, will not be using any of the auto stores steering gears.

Well the Durango boxes from the Dodge parts website is around 340 bucks I think. That is the way to go. It's a better box and it bolts right up.

Well the auto parts stores sell junk when it comes to re-manned pumps and gear boxes.. You will pay 150 buck for garbage when you could just add another 100 bucks and get a really nice one and be done with it. You really do pay more when you try to go cheaper sometimes.

Techno has a PSC set up I think. I would probably just replace it with a Mopar unit. Might as well replace both of them if it's original anyways.

I did that once and it was noisy and was $30.. I talked to my mom about, she said she just wants to get a good pump so if someone could link me to an OEM pump that you know wont leak and cause problems then were just going to do that

I think this is the part number RL088139AC which is a reman pump itself. When I got mine I believe it was a new one so mopar apparently stopped stocking new ones. Looks like $341 with a $50 core at wholesalemopar.com. Check with Kolak too.

I work for one the auto parts stores and can assure you that you are wrong in this statement. The brand Autozone and the brand Advance carries is different so you cant even compare them. By the way, chances are that pump was either rebuilt in Pennsylvania or Mexico As far as the "cheap Chinese parts" reference, you are only half right. China has reputable and not-so-reputable suppliers just like the ol' USA does. Most of the components the OEMs are using these days come from China, Thailand, Korea, Vietnam or Mexico. The delusion that OE is always better is wrong. The OEs generally come from the same place that the aftermarket part does, they just cant call it Mopar, or Motorcraft, or Goodwrench. The benefit to the aftermarket is that they acyually take the time to figure out what the common failures are and then re-engineer the components to eliminate the failure in the future.
