Play in clutch fan.

Is it bad to have play, I grab the fan and and pull and push and the fan clutch assy moves but the water pump shaft does not.

Yes. It should have zero play. Also check the four bolts on the fan-to-clutch and clutch-to-water pump.

fans don't usually have play they are bolted down to the water pump. there is no bearing in a fan to wear out and get loose. if theres play in the fan then either A: your water pumps shot or B: that fans gonna fall off and kill someone because its not bolted down tight.

Its not the fan or water pump its the fan clutch that has play and the fact I never hear it run is a good indication it does not work.

Ive seen the play and I know its coming fom the fan clutch and all I was asking was how do I go about changing the fan clutch it looks straight forward but just wanted to know if I was missing anything obvious.

The play isnt in the fan its the fan clutch that has play. Pretty sure the title says it that way.

Easy to change. There's four bolts that hold the fan to the water pump. Remove them and take out the fan assembly and the fan shroud together. Then there's four nuts that hold the clutch to the fan. Twenty minute job.

I got a Mopar fan clutch off eBay for around $75.00

The "severe duty" clutches from all my local parts stores are annoying. They are engaged 80% of the time opposed to the regular duty ones. My Mopar clutch only kicks on when I'm sitting in traffic on a hot day. Temperature never passes 210.
