If you go to a true hardware store they should be able to hook you up. I do it all the time. Tractor Supply works great as they are cheaper

Yeah, I don't think there's anything special about those PCM case bolts and should be able to match one up at about any big box hwd store. After all they have a non-machine screw type thread and just thread into the nylon inserts in the firewall. Make sure the nylon inserts are in good shape since you don't really want the PCM case grounded to the firewall.

Has anyone had to replace the nylon inserts? My local dealer says they are discontinued

I would think if you measured the square hole you could find a square nylon insert which would fit at a parts store like below. You'd just have to make sure the middle hole is a little smaller than the PCM bolt screw-type threads.

Not my favorite store but showed up in a search.

I'm going to try some of those nylon license plate retainers and see if they'll fit in there

I had wondered about those but think the square hole may be larger for the license plate screw nylon inserts. You may end up having to alter inserts to fit and bet others would like to know what you used.

That's good. Now I don't feel so alone and vulnerable since I lost one of mine.

That said, there is a guy on "the bay" selling a set of 3 for a Wrangler for $4.95. They look the same as for the ZJ. Come to think of it, I think I sent the seller an email asking about their length. Give me a second while I open another browser and check my "bay" messages...

OK, I'm back. Seller first said they were 2 1/2 long. He then got back and said that they might just be 2", but had to check in the morning, which is this morning.

As was mentioned by others, I'm pretty sure that HD or Lowe's, or certainly a better True Value hardware store, would have something that would work, for less. However, the thing I worry about there is if the threads are different, they might make it necessary to keep the screw in the same insert forever, in perpetuity. This makes things so complicated. In other words, it could ruin the original thread/insert bite.

If you dropped yours under the PCM mounting area, it is solid and you might find it laying there with one of those expandable magnets.

Unfortunately, I was switching back between my old and new PCM's, and at one point stuck it somewhere next to top of the radiator. I "flashed" on it just as I pulled back into my driveway. I just drove around the block, so it didn't go far. I took a walk around the block to see if I could find it in the road, but never did. Hopefully nobody found it with their tire. I really did think I'd find it, as I've got eyes like a bird. While it may be in the engine compartment somewhere, I haven't been able to locate it. I even pulled the battery tray, thinking it might have gone under it. No such luck. Like so much else in life,
