Parts rig, would these parts swap into mine easily?

Guy on craigslist has a 94 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 and the 242 transfer case.

I want to swap out my rear end (drum brakes) for the 94 and up disc brake rear end, I hate drum brakes. How can I tell if he has the same gear ratio as I do?

I also want to use his transfer case, he has the 2h/4h part time/4h full time/4 low transfer case, and I want to replace my 249 with it (thats the 242 right?), would that be a straight across swap even though his is the 6 cylinder?

The TC "should" be a straight swap, as it should be the same spline count and input shaft length. (They are close enough in manufacturing date) If they are not, you can use the input shaft from the 249 in yours.
For the axle you'd either need to look at the axle plate for the ratio, or check the pinion/ring count to be sure. If the donor does have towing package, there is a better chance that it is 3.73 gears like the one you have now.

now is it possible just to swap out the rear disc brakes for my drums without doing the whole rear axle thing?

I also think the new rear disc will need a different prop valve under the hood. Might get his to be safe.

I'm not positive, but I thought I read that you don't need to mess with the proportioning valve at all when you swap disks.

I'm going from drum to disc. I don't have discs in my GC.

Yeah I realize that. What I meant to say was that I don't believe you need to mess with the proportioning valve when doing the swap.

if you do the swap, drive it and then evaluation the situation to see if you have to mess with the prop valve
