I cannot find the thread about them and sence i cant search im kinda stuck.
Everyone tells me they dont fit according to the books...
But i see people using them...
What battery do i need? Just go and tell them i want a Optima Yellow top and install it myself? Are they all the same size?
I want long lasting battery for stereo equipment and what not. But also a good battery for starting the jeep up. Should i go with a Blue top? Or will a red or yellow be fine,...

run the red top it will last longer because it is made to be continuously charged and the yellow and blue are deep cycle bats. not good to be hooked to the alt.

my red top came with adapters to widen the battery so it would fit with the stock mounting device. It is very secure.

Yeah where did you get it from? And how much...
also do all the yellow tops come with top and side posts? I like the idea of not haveing to bolt power wires down on the same post my main power cable is coming from...

Batteries Plus., all of them I saw had what mine had. On top of the battery it came with a 2" thick plastic thing. The plastic thing was for 1 mounting method (booster plate, raises the battery), inside of it there were plastic peices for 2 other mounting methods. It was somewhere around $120 if I remember correctly.

I just kept the stock outer battery case and inserted foam to fill the empty space, works fine and it's free.

Even those crazy WJers run them.

I have a red top as well, love it. I did notice that it was a bit tighter with regards to the cables, but i managed.

I never understand what all the fuse was about with optima batteries, why exactly do people want to keep there stock boxes, I mean they look retarded. just take out those rods or whatever that hold it in place, cut them or bent them, or shorten them or whatever, then tighten down on battery as you normally would.

The boxcuts down on vibration which can kill a battery, even an optima. Plus I dont really like the hack job look of just having a battery plopped down wherever. I didnt have to modify mine to make it fit.

I think it looks much better then sitting in some ugly box, you just take the battery holders and shorten them, no vibration, and unless you tell someone what you need, they will never notice

Wheeling two weeks ago, another 4.0 WJ got his alt full of mud and did not work. He was able to drive off the trail running on only the yellow top. voltage dropped so low (8VDC) that the fan would not even run and the engine overheated. Got back to the staging area, cleaned up the alt. and refilled with water and antifreeze. Battery recharged and no harm done. Regular batt would have been dead half way back! I am sold on the yellow top!
He did have to get a jump after all that. But just the one time.
