opinion on 5.9 motor...

so i plan on swapping in a 5.9 sometime soon.

where should i get the motor?

ATK makes a remanufactured engine for $1775
i wouln't have to worry about anything failing like a JY motor (or shouldn't have to worry lol)

or i could go to the JY and get one for $300 and just hope it's in good shape then have it rebuilt.

i plan on doing a 408 stroker too. so this would void the ATK 3year warranty.

what's ya'll opinions?

Well if your going to modify it anyway I'd go junkyard and rebuild it. Some junkyard will give a warantee too.

I think you'll be very happy with the stock 5.9 after your 5.2. Don't dork it up until after the warranty.

I'm going to be doing the same thing after I return from my upcoming deployment. If you're going to do a few mods to the 5.9 either way, build the motor to your exact specs.

Yep, Clarksville, TN.

I've been looking at the Hughes Stroker kit, but it will all depend on whether or not I can get the other half's car paid off or not. I may do the 5.9 swap first, then start accumulating the stroker kit and do that in time. I think my 94 with a 5.9 and IRO's 5.5" LA kit would be a beast!

Lately we haven't had too much of a chance to do much of anything. My ZJ's a 2WD (need to regear the HP30, and swap in an 8.8) and we're currently swapping a 4.0 in place of a 2.5 in his YJ. When we have gone, it's just been on some farms we know the owners at, and a Land Between the Lakes.

So here is summit's big list. Engine Rotating Kits - SummitRacing.com

You can get a 408 stroker rotating assembly starting at $1305.95, and you can prob pick up a 360 at one of the pullaparts in TN. There is one in knoxville and one in memphis. You can get an 8-cyl engine for $135. So, in theory, for $1500+machining, you can have your big nasty 408 stroker ready to sit between the rails in the jeep. Also, to help the beast breath better, check out Mopar Performance's 2009 Catalog in the trail section. They sell everything for the top end, but I don't know the prices. Good luck and we better get a timeslip.

I'd go wrecking yard motor, lots of yards have a 90 day warranty. Especially if you are going to tear it down later anyway. One thing I can suggest when pulling motors or motor parts at the yard, if it doesn't look like its been in an accident, be very careful.
