oil leaking under drivers back bumper cover!!

there is a diaphram or accumulator or something with hoses run to it next to the gas tank. This is leaking oil, what smells like gear oil what is this?
04 GC Freedom edition v8. It looks like I will have to take the bumper cover off to get to it what ever it is. Any body have any ideas??

is it coming out the vent hose?

check the fluid level in the rear diff. It should be to the bottom of the fill plug

don't really know if its the vent hose. I will check that tommorrow. There is oil all over the place. Don't know why oil would be comming out of the vent though. I just changed the gear oil about a month ago.

you overfilled it, or you used the wrong fluid. I know mopar had issues with the diffs foaming the oil. There was an updated new fluid that has an antifoaming agent.

Good time to switch to synthetic...like royal purple...dump the old put the proper amount in and you wont have foaming or leaks..

blackcar87's profile says XJ. If he was driving an WJ, then I would suggest that he had a burp of differential grease out the breather tube. On the WJ, the breather is routed up the gas tank fill pipe and ends there. If your WJ is cold (been sitting out in the cold for a while), and you take off and get quickly up to highway speed, the diff can burp out a small amount of oil. The oil drips down in the fender/bumper and on the garage floor for up to an hour. There is a Chrysler FSB (0300203) on this, and it is fixed by putting a little catch reservoir at the top of the breather. The amount of fluid loss from a single event is negligible, but if this happens often, watch your diff level. YMMV.

I do have a 94 xj, and a 04 GC freedom edition, sounds like what you described with the burping diff. thanks
diff is a d44a, used synthetic fluid when I did the fluid change. Are you supposed to add any limited slip additive? I heard that you are so I did.

if it has a limited slip you must, is your truck a Quadra Trac II, Selec Trac or Quadra Drive?

if you have a limited slip you are supposed to add the additive. If you don't have a limited slip the additive won't hurt anything
