Oil Filter Adaptor O-Ring 4.0L

Ok, just replaced mine today but it didn't have a large o-ring between the block and the adaptor? Maybe it dried up and fell out or something? Anyway I put the large o-ring in the kit between the block and the adaptor in the groove. I assume this is correct?

Is it just the 4.0's that have this adapter? I've got a 5.2 and noticed that there isn't one on mine while searching for an oil leak.

Nope, there isn't one on the v8s, and I believe there isn't one on later model 4.0s....at least mine doesn't have one.

Thanks ajmorell. I took it into a local shop who told me that it could be one of a few things, the cheapest of which is the valve cover gasket. So I'm looking at anywhere from $150-$900 in repairs. If it's $900 I'm just going to cut my losses and trade her off.
