Oil Filler Cap won't open.

Trying to change engine oil on my ZJ 1997, oil filler cap turns, however, it doesn't open. Is there a tool to get it out of the valve cover? any suggestions/comments. will be appreciated.

need to let the jeep cool a bit, if you are in a hurry, pry up the cap and take the other half out with a channel lock, it always happen to me

What they said -- mine finally got bad enough it wouldn't turn when cool, so it's gone now. The little plastic gripper teeth inside get worn out. No problem with the new cap.

I've heard others say they strip easy, I'd get a new cap and have it ready when you get that one out.

Unless you have a funky ZJ with reverse threads How those flu drugs treating ya Hunter?

My old Durango actually had the filler cap stripped out and had to just muscle it off and use pliers to pull out the threaded section.

I coudnt get mine out on my 97 the first time that I went to take it out and the cap actually came apart in two. If I remember it had teeth on the inside of it and it seems to work like a oill bottle, that if you push down and turn it removed pretty easy.

No I wasnt under the influence at the time.

As recolect there was a definite problem with some caps being hard to remove and I believe they addressed the problem on future caps
