Oil change question

Now that I'm on a campus where I don't need to drive my jeep as much as before, would it be in my favor to change the oil at a different interval other than the 3000 mile mark. I only drive it about 1-2 times a week for a grand total of 6-7 miles, 10 miles max. I'm just weirded out that because the oil sits so long it wouldnt retain some protection properties. Thanks for the help.

Depending on your mileage or other factors that may make you more or less prone to oil leaks, you may want to start using synthetic or blend oil. You won't have to worry about it breaking down over time. A good synthetic oil will easily last a year on low miles.

Just have a look in your manual. There is a description of shorter oil change habits: of low mileage, short range driving, driving in desert areas, trailer tow, long idle, high speed, off road driving.
If you want to go on the safe side...

Short trips are harder on engines than long trips. Stick with 3000 miles at most between changes.

Isn't red the only color a vehicle should be?
If at first you don't succeed, use more speed.

He's not talking about short trips, he's talking about very little overall driving. Changing it every 3000 would make for a very long duration of changes.

older cars like your model need them changed every 3k, newer cars dont really need to follow that rule. I have an 05, I change every 3-4k whenever its convenient. Of course if you off road more you should change your oil more often.

Most manufacturers recommend a mileage, or 6 months, whichever comes first.

If you change it in October or November, and in April or May, you're not changing it when you get popsicles if you remove your gloves.

when your driving any vehicle a very small ammount oil change intervals are no longer determined by mileage but time, like i said before change your oil every 3-4 months. i change my oil every 4 months and usually only have 1.5-2k on the clock since my last oil change.

I drive less than 5000 a year, 3000 something last year.
They say 3000 miles or every 3 months for oil change.
I thought that was a little much so my scheduled changes are as follows:
#1 in December (fresh oil for winter + not too cold outside while changing)
#2 in April (fresh oil for the spring/summer + again not cold outside)
#3 in August fresh oil for summer/fall (just hot outside, but not cold!)

Four times a year hasnt given me any problems as of yet on any vehicle I've owned.
