Oil being sucked into air filter from Valve cover

For some reason oil is being sucked through the valve cover hose to the airfilter. The only reason i can think of why this would happen is if i'm not getting a good amount of air and therefore my engine is creating a vacuum and sucking the oil up into the air filter. If i explained that right? Do you think that's my problem or is it something else?

The blow-by (aka PCV) orafice on the valve cover is bad.
Common issue.
It's the rubber grommet lookin thing on the valve cover connected to the hose that goes to the air cleaner.
Cheap easy fix.

Later model valve covers have a shield inside them that helps the blow by oil stay inside.
Cheap fix is to just replace the rubber orafice (and expect to replace it every 20-30k miles).
More expensive fix is to replace the valve cover with a newer style.

you mean the piece that actually twists into place on the valve cover? All i'm finding is the replacement hose. i thought it was just a straight through hose.

Yes, the rubber piece/grommet that twists into the valve cover.
It's the modern version of a PCV valve.
It has a little rubber check valve built into it, under where the hose connects.
Go to your local Jeep dealer parts dept., and mention '4 litre blow-by', and they will (or at least should) know exactly what you are talking about.
