OD not engaging

Hi, I'm a newbe to the forum and need some help with some trouble I'm having with my wife's 04 Grand Cherokee. Recently we were driving her jeep and it just decided not to go into overdrive. I checked the fluid and it is way over full, which is odd since we haven't had it serviced in two years - so it's been over full all this time.

I was planning to put it in the shop to have it looked at but thought I would try the Jeep Forum first to see what I could find out from the experts who own them.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

John

how did you check the fluid? Did you do it with the engine running and in neutral, after going through each gear on the shifter while the Jeep is parked?

If not, the Jeep will appear overfull. Just asking as many people don't know this so do not take offense.

No I did not. I checked it while it was in park after driving it for about 20-30 minutes. Thanks for the tips. I'll recheck it and see if that makes a difference. I thought that maybe a plug or wire or something might have come loose to cause the OD to stop working.

However I did get it to engage after flooring the gas and accelerating up to about 60-65 mph.

Thanks!
