O2 Sensor Question

Ok so my check engine light came on in my '04 WJ yesterday, just pulled the code and its throwing an "0135" which i've found to be an "O2 Sensor Heater Failure Oxygen sensor heater element malfunction"

What does this mean and what do I need to fix this? It is still under warranty, though if its something minor i'd rather not go thru the hassle of taking it into the shop. Thanks in advance folks!

Jim

You can do it yourself but if it still under warranty I would take it in.

The sensor has a two-wire heating element in it. The sensor will not function properly if it is broken and it cannot get to temperature.

thanks a lot for the responses. Does anyone know if the factory warranty will cause me to need to pay any type of deductable? if so would it be cheaper to do it myself? I bought it pre-owned from a local jeep dealer.

Also, how will this affect my daily driving of the vehicle? Will this cause issues with gas mileage due to potentially richening or leaning out fuel from the faulty sensor? thanks

Jim

Yes it will affect your gas mileage.First thing Monday morning call your warranty people and ask them if there is a deductible and how much, then go from there.

This should be a no-charge warranty item, especially as an emissions item.
Don't let 'em sock you for anything else "while we're under there.
