o-rings for quick disconnect?
I replaced the radiator a couple of days ago as well as the steel trans coolant lines that plug into it. I also used new plastic clips for those so-called quick disconnects.

Yesterday one of the fittings came loose and I found a green o-ring protruding from the female end of the connector. Now I've looked in the FSM, and had Napa took a look on their system and it doesn't seem to be required. OTH, without it the connection went together far more easily, and it's leaking a small amount.

So, does anyone know if this o-ring belongs there? I can't find any mention here in the forums, although I read that I could have just replaced the ends with hose and clamps. Wish I had known that sooner!

When my quick connects started leaking I believe I pulled a couple o-rings out of it with a pick. I was stuck for time so I just pushed the hose over the metal fitting with clamps. You probably could find the o-rings somewhere but you'd have to measure them yourself. I doubt anyone stocks them by application. With just one o-ring it would be more likely to leak. You should just be able to pop it back in its groove though if it just came out.

yeah, more than one would make sense. I put it back on and the fitting went together with a much more solid "click" and won't come apart, BUT, it has a little play in it that is allowing it to leak still. Ironically the Napa steel line was labeled as " Contains Seals & Gasket Needed For Installation", but there was nothing there, so I had to assume nothing was needed. At least the trans is still working.

thanks for the help.

There are a pair of o-rings in that connector separated by a plastic spacer. One of mine got crushed, I dug it out with a pick and replaced it with a green o-ring of the same size scavenged from an A/C seal kit. Worked great!

Spacer eh? that could explain things. I've added two more o-rings (labeled as fuel system rings, but exactly the same size) to the one that came out. Everything was great for 20 miles, and the very next trip it started leaking again. Slight leak now, but still, back under the car I go.

The time now is 06:57 AM.
