NV3500 or NV4500

Hey everyone
I've been doing some research for a trans to put in the 94 zj with a v8. I found the stock 46rh for $500, but I'm really starting t think about this 5 speed. How much would a NV3500 or NV4500 trans cost? Where could i find the write up for doing the swap if its ever been done. In a previous post i was told that its similar to the 5 speed swap woody did, does this sound correct? What is different from this swap? Do i need a new transfer case? Sorry for all the questions i just haven't heard much about this swap. Please post any info anyone may have! Thanks!

I don't know the cost, but the 318/NV3500 is a great combo, had it on my old Dakota, I could smoke a 305 auto Camaro off the line no problem, as for the TC, from what I've Read, the old Dakota's with the 318/nv3500 use the NV231 TC (I looked for years trying to find a 315/5spd/4x4 generation 3 DAK)

I believe the Manual's have a different computer than the autos, so you may have to get one out of the ram or dak with the nv.

00-04 TJ's use the NV3550. They complain that they are super noise, but reasonably relyable behind the 4.0. The NV4500 is going to to pricer, but a great tranny behind a V8.

If you are going to lift it and throw a big set of tires on, I would go with the NV4500.

They are not cheap, (call junkyards) and you are gonna have to change the exhaust and starter locations. (Dodge Ram 318's have the starter on the opposite side of the motor as a ZJ 318 does.) No matter what you go with, it's gonna be a chore. Use the Dodge transfer case, as yours will not bolt up.

Another thing to note, the NV4500 may not fit in the ZJ trans tunnel, a buddy of mine up here has a 4500 in his YJ, and I took a few measurements, and you may have some cutting to do. I might make it fit, but I dropped my T-case a couple inches and I have more room thanks to that.

Are there any write ups for this swap? Or does anyone know of anyone who's done one on a GC?

I put an AX-15 in my ZJ, the write up is in the FAQ.

EMTIMZJ is putting a combo in his ZJ I don't recommend for a DD. However it's a 4 speed manual that should be tough enough to tackle just about anything.

He's had to tear his interior apart.
