np242 prices in your area?

I want to take my 249 out and swap in a 242. I called around to a couple of salvage yards today to see what was available. One had 89,000 miles on it and they want a whopping $700 for it and it won't include the linkage I need. Next up was 190,000 miles for $350.
So then he tells me that they have 3 1993 zj's in the U Pull yard but he didn't know what were in them b/c they aren't inventoried. I asked for a price on one of those and the answer was $65. Seriously, them pulling it out is worth HOW MUCH? You gotta be kidding me. I told him I would see him this weekend. Gonna have to pack up some tools.
Just wondering what you guys have paid for your 242's.

Look on CL for people parting ZJ's. I'd be willing to bet you'd have no trouble getting one for next to nothing.

I actually just called today about one. It was pulled and is ready to go. They said $300 for it. I made a thread for it asking if it was too high and a lot of guys said yeah. Some said they paid in the $100-$150 range.

I paid $188 for my 99 242. It had less than a 100k on it.

$125 to $150 is a good price for a 242 ready to go reasonable miles.
You can find them at the pull it yards for dirt cheap.
If you go threw the reg yards and dealers, you will pay out the butt. its just the way it is.

Good hunting to you.
Remember, 93' you have the older style gear cut, so you need an older pre 95 242 or you have to use the front half of your 249.
read up on the years.

I almost bought one locally for $300...luckily I found a freebie, all I had to do was yank it out.

That's why I have been asking specifically for a 93. I don't mind changing it over if it's cheap enough but I really want to direct swap.

I had the same experience shopping around at bone yards. They wanted $650+ for a transfer case, $250 for a driveshaft. Guess they don't want my business.

I got mine for free, I was going over my purchases with a friend to pay him back after a junkyard trip(forgot my debit card) and it turns out the guy forgot to charge us for the TC (we also bought two transmissions, a shifter, and some other things).

I think you should go back there and pay him for the items you have. Its the proper thing to do. Didnt your mother teach you anything?

Yeah, I think he should go back also. You were going to pay for them in the first place. Do the right thing and go back. He might give you a discount for being honest. If that guy didn't own that business he may have gotten fired. You get a steal, he gets fired. Doesn't sound very fair to me.
