Novak 231 cable shifter kit
anyone install one in their ZJ?

Yes I did! It works, but is not bolt in. You'll have to massage the body mounting plate with a hammer & drill a new hole in the transmission tunnel. Then you might have to adjust the clevis mounting point on the shift bracket on the t-case. But once the PITA is over, it shifts like butter. Seriously, you'll wonder if it fell out because its so smooth!

you have a 5.9 don't you? I installed one on mine a couple weekends ago.

hey did you ever get this mounted all up? How'd you get the body mount to work?

Use the body side plate the kit comes with. You will have to re shape the ZJ trans tunnel, and drill the trans tunnel out for the XJ TJ pattern. I re used one or two of the ZJ body bracket holes. Also, I had to modify the body bracket for the shift cable, the angles are different. I think I had to point the body bracket down some with my spud wrench. On the 1995 & older 231's you will have to modify the breather hose. I ended up putting Dynamat over the entire bracket area on the inside to seal & sound proof it. Be prepared to strip your front interior out....seats, carpet, B pillar trim, seat belts.

I did this in Sept or problems & I've used 4wd a lot. It shifts like butter, no binding, no odd noises, super crisp. I have a'95 ZJ 231 in mine with the factory shift gate & bezel.

yeah i took apart the 249 shifter and attempted to bend it to get it to match up to the angles in the directions with no such luck.

I didn't need to bend my shifter lever at all

It is, but you can adjust it by drilling a new hole further up the lever on the T-case. I did this, had the peg welded in place, ground down the back side of the peg for clearance, chopped off one arm of the clevis & it works perfect.

The time now is 10:09 PM.
