Check your crankshaft position sensor. It might have failed.

Hey bud,
Not sure about your '94, but my '99 4.0 litre had the SAME problem, and yes, it was the crankshaft position sensor. I wanted to replace it myself, but I could not reach the darn thing! I ended up taking it to the dealer. $300 later, they replaced the CPS. It's a $50 part. Guess they made a nice buck off of me!
I hope you get it fixed soon.

Oh it's got one. I just checked and my 94 has one, so I'm guessing yours does too.

Your best bet would be to get rid of it ....
Get yourself one of these..
Very fuel efficient and the ladies love them...
Or you could just check the CPS.. Thats probobly whats wrong..

coopers are ladies cars thats why they love em It was the crank sensor. I lowered the rear of the engine to get at it better. Broke the bolt that holds it in. So i had to make a custom clip to hold it in. Runs perfect now though. Thanks for the holp guys

lowered the engine? holy crap, that's a lot of work just to get something that takes 15-20 minutes tops to do the whole job if you have some extensions and a wobble socket.
