no 4Lo

the guy before me did a selec trac swap. but didnt change out the shifter. i cant get to 4 l. the lowest it goes is neutral. do i need to get a new shifter or just adjust the linkage. if so how??

I would disconnect the linkage and see if you can manually engage 4Lo under the vehicle yourself. I would think that will rule out anything being wrong internally. Then, you'll also be able to see if the linkage is too short to push the lever back to engage 4Lo and you could adjust accordingly.

IIRC (sure one of the more knowledgeable guys will jump in) the linkage has to be adjusted and a new cover inserted to let the shifter go through the proper lengths to pull the linkage....

Like I said not positive, someone will jump in.

i still have the 249 bezel with a 231 installed, i junked the factory linkage and made a much more simple and reliable design, i do not know if the throws are farther on the 242 though....

The throw on the 249 is longer, with a longer tab and longer link shaft. It binds on the torque shaft before it can get all the way to low range on a 242.
I have a 242 linkage I need to get rid of with the shifter, 30$ shipped.
Long since sold the bezel though.
