New ZJ Owner

So i picked up my first ZJ a few weeks back. Its a 96 Laredo with the 5.2 Magnum. Its red with dark grey interior. I picked it up for $1,000. Its really clean, has 185k but runs mint. The motor sounds perfect and has plenty of power and the trans shifts great. I will be doing a 242 swap in the near future as my 249 is nearing the end of its life, well the VC is anyway. Im getting quite a bit of skipping and screeching at full lock. Only things ive had to do as far as maintenence is a front cv and e brake shoes/hardware. i also changed the oil and trans fluid for safe measures. It seems this vehicle was very well taken care of. The body is pretty solid besides some rust on the rear hatch and bottom of the front driver door but im trying to hold off on replacing those until i find some already red parts in nice shape so i dont have to deal with painting.

So far as far as mods ive installed factory tow hooks, factory fogs, 2 inch BB along with UC springs all around, pro comp shocks, new sway bar links all around, upgraded the stereo and door speakers all around, also installed some tweeters, painted the stock wheels as they were in really rough shape.

My local junk yard has over 10 ZJs so its been great for finding all these parts ive needed, as well as plenty of the 242s that i will be going back for soon. i do want to upgrade the tires to 31x10.5s but the tires on there now are nearly new so id like to use those up first but if a good deal comes along i'll probably jump on it. Adjustable track bars will be coming soon too as the axles are off center since the lift.

Overall i think i got a great deal and couldnt be happier with the ZJ. Im originally a ford guy as my pride and joy is a Ford Contour SVT but im definitley diggin Mopar now! This forum has so much knowledge, ive been able to answer every question ive had without even posting. So let me know what you guys think!

heres the ZJ

and heres my SVT

Looks good man! You seam to be on the right track with what your doing, I've had mine for a year and you've already done almost as much as me! (my highschool budget may have something to do with that) Looks nice though!

Looks great! I'd rhino line the cladding, IMO. Red ZJs look sexy.

How far off center is your axle? I have an Orvis with the Upcountry suspension and am getting ready to install a Fat Bob's 2" BB (it's sitting on my kitchen counter now.) Really don't want to mess with adjustable track bar, though.

Jeep looks good! I like the dark wheels!

Thanks guys, I've actually been debating rhino lining the cladding and I think I'm gonna do it. As far as the axles, I'm not sure exactly how far off they are but its definitely noticeable. I'd say its over an inch though. The Jeep still tracks straight and drives just fine but I still want to get it taken care of. I'm really getting into modding this thing. I've been neglecting my other car haha

Also, look down into the intake to check for a leaking plenum gasket, you'll see oil if its bad. You'll notice less power and worse gas mileage. PolkaPower just did replaced his on his niner.

I am getting pretty bad gas mileage so I'll check that out. Thanks!

So I did end up doing the plenum gasket and plate. It was pretty bad. I bought an aluminum plate off someone on Ebay to replace the stock pate. The Jeep runs much better now. Seems a lot more smooth through the power band and has a lot more power.
