New to Me 95 GC Laredo

I am now the owner of a 95 laredo.

Sold my YJ today and bought the GC

Have a question about the remote door locks

They are not working... I tried reprograming the remote per the owners manual and they still don't work

Where should I look next?

Other than that this thing runs great and is a big comfort improvment over my YJ

Hmm ... not so sure whether or not I can help you with the locks, but welcome to the GC club .. I recently (2wks ago) became the owner of a 95 GC, and am loving it... but I didn't get the remotes (gotta buy some off ebay eventually).
but a stupid question: are the batteries in the remotes good? do you have a clear line of sight from remote -> sensor (in the overhead console)?

maybe someone else will know more..

Matt

Its the 4.0 command trac

The engine is as clean as a brand new one, 130,000.

The rear main seal was replaced a few weeks ago, new brakes.

I need to order the build sheet for it

I feel low to the ground now, I was not planning on lifting it, hopefully I can stick to that plan.

Yes I replaced the bateries in the remote and I am pointing straight at the rcvr overhead at the dome light.

Remote

I just got a remote off eBay. It actually worked. I followed the instructions....which were wrong. It said to go thru the process...open door, key to "Run", and hit the Lock button on the remote. After several attempts....no go. Did it all again, but hit the Unlock button on the remote. It worked.

I did a search and could only find programing info. What do I look at next?

My remote only has side by side buttons "lock" and "Unlock"

I want to avoid the dealer.

any help please

I have the 2 button rmote also.I had to try several times. I know you said you had the programming, but here ia what I did: Leave the driver's door open during the process. Lock all doors using the driver's door control. Manually unlock the drivers door only. Put key in ignition and turn to run, but don't start the engine. Hold the remote up to the sensor and press & hold the unlock button on the remote until it blinks twice. Turn off the ignition within 20 seconds.
If this doesn't work, try different variations of the doors being locked, doors being unlocked, pressing the Lock button on the remote....any combo you can think of.
Let me know how it goes.

I just want to confirm you do have the infrared remote, and infrared receiver, right?

If you have the infrared receiver, there should be a red lensed sensor on your overhead console.

yes,

there is a 1 inch size plastic dome extending out of the overhead right behind the dome lights.

HMMMM... Back to basics. Did the remote come with the keys when you got the Jeep? Did you get it from a private seller or a dealer? There seems to be a lot of remote problems posted. I feel like I got lucky with my first shot @ buying a remote on eBay and having it work.

I'm afraid I know nothing of the infrared systems, so I can't tell you which fuses to check. With the radio remotes, there is a procedure to synchronize the RKE transmitter and receiver, since they will stop working after 250 key presses on the remote without activating the receiver. However, I doubt this is your problem, especially since you have gone through the steps to program it afresh. One other thing you might try, is if the BCM has been disconnected recently, it doesn't know it has the VTSS. To enable it, you have to lock all the doors using the power door lock on the driver's door, shut the door, then open it with the key. Of course, since your RKE doesn't work, you have probably already done this a thousand times as well.

The battery in the RKE fob is fresh and installed correctly.
It matches the VTSS (infrared)

The only think I can suggest at this point is to check every single fuse under the dash and in the PDC to make sure none are blown.
Isn't there some kind of indicator inside the Jeep to show the VTSS has power?

Sorry,
VTSS stands for vehicle theft security system.
It is activated by locking all the doors with the power door lock or with the RKE fob. I don't know about pre-96's, but the others have a red LED on the dash that blinks when the VTSS is activated.

Also, for future reference, if I thoughtlessly use acronyms without defining them, pretty much all of them are listed in the FAQ under the heading "Commonly Used Acronyms".
