New here with a '97, and a question on tow points.
Hey all, I've been checking out the forum and have really enjoyed reading the various threads. I have a stock '97 Grand Cherokee, scratched and beat up inside and out, but I love it. It's mostly a get around town vehicle, but I do occasionally take it off road in the NJ pine barrens. I've done just fine so far being cautious and avoiding deep puddles and deep sugar sand as best I can. I did manage to crack the radiator last weekend though. I'm not really interested in seeking out difficult terrain, rather I want to be able to get from point A to point B safely. I'm frequently out alone as well so I want to be able to get myself out on my own if I get stuck. I've ordered straps and a heavy duty come along, but am not seeing any tow points on the vehicle. Some research has turned up these front tow hooks: http://www.jcwhitney.com/bolt-on-tow.../p2011499.jcwx Has anyone used these? Any other recommendations? How about for the rear? Thanks in advance!
Dave

In the back get a hitch and hook to that.
In the front you've discovered Jeep's inexcusable design flaw.

For the front your best bet is to go to a wrecker and find a ZJ that has tow hooks and get them. The store bought kits you get dont have the other plate that you need to install them properly.

You might want to check out Kevin's Off-road ( KOR), he has a rad support/tow point, that might give you what you want, and it's cheaper than the ones you were looking at.
It raises the rad slightly(more ground clearance), protects the rad, and gives you tow points up front.

Ehh, an even better option is Kevin's Rad Support. It eliminates the OEM rad support, provides a stronger support, and provides tow points on the front. I bought mine used for like $75, but I believe you can get them for $120'ish...

Not really an option for me with what they want for shipping to Canada...but for the OP it might be a consideration.

Thanks for the input guys! I will see what I can find at the junkyard, and if that fails I'll probably spring for the KOR products.

I wonder what the production percentages/differences are with tow hooks as you move around the country Probably 1 out of 25 ZJs have hooks in this area, totally impossible to find them used but guys on this board talk like they're growing on trees. For the record I am not a casual junkyard traveler and visited around sixty junkyard ZJs in the process of building mine. Not a hook on any of em.
