New GC for the wife...questions

Just got a Grand for the wife and I have questions. I am very familiar with older Grand Wagoneers and CJ's, but am all lost with this thing. Please help.

4.0 L I-6 engine, unknown automatic tranny, selectrac t-case, unknown axle ratios

The problem is:
When starting you can turn the key for anywhere between 1-20 seconds and the engine rotates but will not fire. Stop for a second, turn the key again, and it fires right up. Any ideas?

I have had a similar problem in an older CJ. Ended up that the fuel pump was losing prime. However, it would always start after about 15 seconds on the initial turn of the key. This GC will not, no matter how long you leave the key turned. And, even if you only crank if for a second or two then crank again, it will fire right up.
Help...

I had a similar problem with my 98ZJ. I replaced the fuel level sending unit and it hasn't acted up since.
