New to the Forum, i have some ZJ questions
First off, Hello all.
alright i just sold my car (beautiful Mustang Roush Stage 2) but now i have spent the past few months looking for a jeep. Because i come from a V8 background the ZJ sounds great. not to mention that 5.9L sounds like a beast! My questions is, is there any dissadvantage with a ZJ in off roading? I know taht they weigh more but would i beable to keep up with a TJ or XJ with simmualr mods? Thanks for the help!

ZJs do well offroad. Since the ZJ has a LWB, it excels in different areas compared to the SWB wranglers.

So in my research i have seen the JeepSpeed stuff. Looks cool but they are all XJs. I read the rules and jsut about all jeeps can enter. Have any of you seen a ZJ made into a JeepSpeed?

I have seen a few ZJ's run in Baja races and they have done very well. It is a great platform to build off of, there is less aftermarket suport for it but that is growing as well.
What do you plan on doing with your Jeep? For performance check out www.krcperformance.com

I live in chicago and im a good 2 hour drive from any sand. I would drive out there on the weekend but not all the time. There are many trails around here and a lot of jeep clubs. this is going to be a daily driver but i want something offroad capable. I saw rubicon express makes a LTS for the ZJ which sounds amazing but very very expencive. Ultimate goal is the long travel lockers, some protection and recovery stuff.

Where about in the Chicago area? I have lots of relatives on the SW side and went to college in Palos Heights.
You said your ultimate goal is "long travel lockers" what do you mean by that? Adding lockers is for pretty severe off roading. Not that I am against it but it is not needed even for Silver Lake sand dunes. A ZJ with a V8 will give you great performance and incredible off road capabilities when built right it will even be luxurious to drive.

maybe he mant "Long Arms, Lockers" its a good goal but lockers may be extreem for a DD if your mostaly going to just be on the street. i would say for you just skip right over the BB and look at what some of the guys on here are running. (check the lifted pic thred at the top) and figure out what you like and can aford, as well as what would be resonable for what your experience is offroading.

You have to be careful with this if you want it to be your daily driver. Im at about 4 inches right now and my ride has gotten much harsher. Granted I am on stock arms in the rear and only slightly longer lcas in the front. If its going to see mostly pavement i dont see any reason why you would wanna pay the large chunk of change for lockers. At 3-4 inches you can run 32s...... and be quite capable on the trails.
