New to forum Help me out with a 95 5.2

I've got a 95 GC with the 5.2. It is the AWD model with 185,000 Trouble free miles besides a radiator and water pump. I inherited this Jeep and it has some sentimental value and I'd like to restore it somewhat and make it more functional to use deer hunting and pulling a small boat with. I also drive it daily around a 100 miles round trip to work. I'd like to go to bigger tires but nothing too big , I was thinking 31x10.50's MAX or even 30x9.50's. It has some sag in the suspension so I'd like to replace shocks and springs as well and not do any type of spacers.

What all is involved in swapping the tranfer case to a NP242 and how readily available are they?

If I were to choose to freshen the motor up would it just be best to go with a crate motor? Is it possible to get one of higher performance and still work with the computer system I have?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

If you don't want any lift at all, then factory UC springs and Bilstien shocks work gewd.

If you could tolerate 1" of lift, then the OME springs and shocks get good reviews.

I would stay with 30" tires, but 31" makes a big difference offroad.

The easiest, most expensive way to put in a 242 TC is to get one from George at TCU. Since it bolts in, its doable by the backyard mechanic. Replace the rear transmission seal when you do it.

I am in the same boat as you with my 5.2. It has 170,000 miles on it, and it is getting real tired and has blowby. The cheapest way to freshen it and get more pep is to pull it and rebuild it yourself with a performance cam and roller rockers. If money is no object, you can get a complete crate 5.9 from Mopar that will work. The computer and fuel system will support around 350 HP I believe.

Since I mostly offroad, and the 5.2 has enough power for me, I am going to buy a reman long block for $1700. It has a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty, and I can be back up and running in a weekend. HTH

Where can I find that long block you are referring to and how do I get in touch with TCU?

I am getting the long block from the local Carquest here. If it dies under warranty, I don't want to have to ship it anywhere.
