need help if possible...ignition issues

i have a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with a 4.0, sometimes when you turn the key to start it just cranks, and cranks, and only if you lightly press and hold the gas pedal it will start, but then if you let off the pedal it stalls. if you can manage to drive if for a little bit, 3-5 miles or so, it will straighten up and act fine. any help or advice or even just spitballin would be helpful.

thx for the help

As strange as this sounds put a new battery in it. I know makes no sense but jeeps are just strange like that. A jeep with a bad battery will crank and crank but not stay running. Once you run it for a few the alternator gives the battery a little more juice and it stays running.

I would try a fuel pump relay. Swap out with another one like it. It's free troubleshooting.

A battery or fuel pump relay. How many miles?

I don't know about a 99, but i put brushes in my 97 alternator for 11 buck and 45 minutes time. Good for another 100K
