Need Answers Quick. AW4 Tanny Questions
So my Aw4 is spittin out tranny fluid on my. Its comming from the two Tranny Cooler Lines that come from the side of the pan to the radiator. There is a section of each pipe that has been compressed and it has since cracked and is leaking from there. What is the OD of the metal Tubing that goes from the tranny pan, to where it becomes rubber tubing.
I am going to cut out the bad section of metal tube, and patch it in with rubber fuel hose until I can get the correct tubes. So I need to know what size ID tubing to get to patch it with. Also, What fluid do I need to use to fill it back up. On the Tranny Dip Stick, It says to use Dextron 2. Is there a newer alternative that I can top it back up with, or do i need to go back in with dextron 2?

Any Dextron will be fine, the higher numbers are just upgrades and replace the older ones. You can only go up in numbers not down though.

i had a somewhat similar problem. autozone sells a tubing designed for transmission fluid, which i suppose is different than what is available for fuel lines.
why not just get some hose clamps and stick with rubber tubing? why do you need to replace the aluminum tubing? somewhat related question....can the AW4 take ATF+4 or does it require a dextron formula?

Make sure you get rubber hose approved for transmission fluid. Otherwise the fluid will eat the rubber.

Maybe, but why put something else in it when it recommends another fluid that is right next to it on the shelf at the store?

I replaced the metal tubing with Rubber. And i used Transmission Cooler Line from AAP. Aledgidly tranny fluid eats fuel line.
And the people at the Auto parts store swore up and down that the AW4 could run on ATF +4, and that it was compatable with Dextron 2. So i grabbed that. If it breaks...Oh well. Rubber hoses went on well. Ill get a pic tomorrow of the section of metal tube i cut out. The section in question is right above the Right Upper Control arm mount. This has got to be the dumbest idea ever to run it right on top of the mount. I fixed that with an extra few inches of tube however.
