Navigation CD

Can the navigation system read a burned (copied) disc?

It depends upon the format of the burned disc.

Reason I ask is I just spent alot of money on the CD and would like to make a back up incase I scratch or lose the original.

The OEM DVD disc used on the 2005 & 2006s can be copied with a dual layered DVD burner. No protection scheme.
I don't know if the '04 uses the same NAV system. Why not just give it a try?
