Napa numbers and prices for steering boxes, (Durango, etc.)

Part #s according to the NAPA website catalog.

NSP88278139 is a 2-15/16ths turns Lock-to-lock 99 Durango/Dakota box.
It is NOT the snowplow package.
Cost is 239 and 111 core charge.

NSP88278130 is a 3-3/8ths turns Lock-to-lock Dakota box.
Cost is 189 and 222 core charge.

NSP88278131 is a 3-3/8ths turns Lock-to-lock Durango/Dakota box.
This one IS the snowplow package.
Cost is 189 and 83 core charge

NSP88278121 is a 3-1/16th turns Lock-to-lock Jeep box.
Cost is 245 and 167 core charge.

NSP88278133 is a 3-3/8ths turns Lock-to-lock Jeep box.
Cost is 189 and 222 core charge.

Too bad you can't buy the good Durango box and return the core as a Jeep box.

Also, the NSP88278121 with 3-1/16th turns Lock-to-lock is a decent alternative to the Durango box. I don't know what the Jeep options are that specified that box though.

My lower bearing, right above the pitman arm, is soon-to-be toast. There was click/clunking so I had someone wobble the steering wheel while I inspected stuff. The pitman shaft actually moves from side to side before it will turn at all. Good chance it was from when I crunched the right wheel into a pipe hard enough to break the wheel and various other parts like the LCAs. I also have a new squeek/crunch noise from what seems like the right wheel area (the side I hit) that isn't engine, trans, or brake dependant. It starts at about 15mph or so when the rig is cold, and goes away when it warms up. Maybe a bearing. I will have to do some more inspecting.

Are they honestly going to check to see that you are returning a jeep box and not a durango one?

No, there wouldn't be any problem giving them the Jeep box. In fact, the factory would come out great cuz they get a pricier core. but the part number and core price on your invoice is for the cheaper core. The store wouldn't give you more money than you spent on the core charge originally.

Wait, this makes no sense.

NSP88278133 is a 3-3/8ths turns Lock-to-lock Jeep box.
Cost is 189 and 222 core charge.

You sure that's correct?

Yup. I just called my local NAPA. I can get the good box for 218/111 with my discount (I used to work for NAPA) and 173/222 for sure on the other one.

Core charges are on top of the cost. You are not going to get the box for -$33.00.

IDK why you bothered looking up the prices on the Durango box. If you are upgrading your steering box, go with the Waggy box. And for the record when I bought my Waggy box, they didn't question or even check to see what I brought back in to get my core back.

What are the years, etc for the best "waggy" box then?

I just looked at a few of the specs for different years and they are all the same L2L turns as the GC box is?

What's a "waggy" box?

The only thing that pops into my mind is a dog's tail wagging.

Does the pittman arm on this box move more than the Jeep's or something?

1980 + to get the same line connections.

Andy, did yours come with 4 mounting holes? For some reason I thought the re-man'ed waggy boxes only came with 3... I completely agree though, if you are "upgrading" your steering box, get the 4-hole waggy or 4-hole J-(10? 20?) box.

I went with the a 4-hole waggy, I got it for $20 from a local guy parting a waggy out. I had to drive 40 min and pull it myself, but it was in great shape and only $20!

Steers the 35's REALLY easy.
(Yes I actually drove the ZJ! )
