3 days ago my buddy and I set out to build my rear bumper before we got to work on the front. I have no shop or garage so this is all being done in my back yard.
Material: 2X6" rectangle steel @ 11 gauge.
Tools: Wal-mart welder, angle grinder and drill.
Experience: None.
This is still a work in progress and all that is left are a few more welds along with filling in the ends of the tubes... Oh and some bed liner or paint, have not decided for sure yet. I will post more pics as I go. Input and suggestions are welcome.
This is all for now, trying to think of how to mount some tow points so I will not have to put my heavy tow package back on.

i was not aware that wall mart sold welders.
not a bad looking bumper, as your fab skills evolve, you will be able to build off of that real easy.

Thanks for the input guys. The welder I bought is this one.

Wal-mart no longer sells them, it has been about six years since I purchased it.

Not bad man, these custom builds inspire me to fabricate my own. I have an ARB in the front, but i don't think i want to spend a lot of money for a rear bumper. Making one would be less expensive. Keep up the good work man.

Nice, I've been plotting on doing one before too long with a spare tire carrier on it as well. One of those side swinging ones.
One thing you can do for recovery is get the 2" tubing for the receiver hitch, cut a place in that bumper for it and make sure it is good and secure. You'll have a receiver and can put in a d-ring shackle. Or weld in d-ring tabs like these from JCR: http://www.jcroffroad.com/Merchant2/...egory_Code=DPL

Looks like a good start. For the tow point on mine I cut up the stock hitch and added it to the bumper, pics in my build thread.

You might want to close up the ends on the side pieces. Looks like it would attract a lot of mud and stuff and eventually rust with it open like that. Otherwise it looks great.

I love these tires and plan on getting 32's after the axle upgrade down the road. The tire is pretty quiet on the highway, well pretty good for the type they are. The compound is pretty soft so they may not last as long as some other brands, but mine is not a daily driver so no worries for me. They perform very well in the snow and mud, but also on rock and loose dirt/gravel. I like them much better than the old AT's I had.
As for the open ends of the bumper they will be closed up. As for sticking it out farther I may add another 2x6 on the outside and put my d-rings and hitch on. taking some time off from the build for a couple of days because of homework...

Looking good, I started my bumper build last week. 3x3x3/8 for the main part of the bumper, which is being tied in with the factory hitch. I'm using 3/16 plate for the sides and to fill in under the tail lights and between the bumper and hitch. I'll use either 1 1/2x3 or 2x3 for the tire carrier.
