My weekend has proven to be interesting (pics)
So I go to school at MTU, and am a member of Alpha Phi Omega... a co-ed service fraternity that has strong ties to the Boy Scouts of America...
this weekend is one of our service projects where we host a winter camping out at a cabin. Some of the points we touch on is winter survival training... and some really get into it... Well, Friday night was the first night out there, and everyone mostly sleeps in the cabin that night, as they build their shelters outside on Saturday when there's daylight to do so. However, some are a bit more hardcore... and were going to set up a tent outside and try their luck the first night as well. The problem was, they could pack snow around the walls of the tent, but they would still lose a lot of heat through the top. So what was their solution? Sleep under a vehicle. As I'm sitting playing Euchre, the two guys come up and ask me if any of us have a lifted vehicle. Although mine isn't lifted much, I made mention that I've got a few extra inches of ground clearence on mine that they might be able to fit under... yup. Sure enough, my Jeep got turned into a tent for the night. ![]() As you can see, they packed the snow around the front and sides to keep wind out, and heat in, while leaving the back open for them to climb under, as the back sits just a little higher than the front. Was going to get pictures of'm under it, but they ended up coming in around 4:30am this morning to warm up a bit. 6 hours in the cold winter weather isn't too bad though. Funniest part was that they told me they would help dig my Jeep right back out. I told them not to bother, as I was just going to plow right through it. They looked at me funny and gave me the "suuuure you are" sort of look, but 4Hi and a little reverse to break lose the snow a bit and I was out without a problem!I'm heading back there tonight to finish some stuff up. Came back into town to grab a few things and get some work done. Either way, I thought some of you might get a kick out of this. ![]()

Really they should've closed the rear up a bit more, but meh...
some pictures of the Jeep when we first arrived (my roommate and I were the first ones there to get the stoves started up and to dig a path to the bathrooms)

Hey you gotto give it to the boyscouts. I learned more about survival there then I ever did in the air force.
Now a days I would have been lazy and slept inside the car however :-P

That great you help out with that kind of thing, I'm sure it really means a lot to them. Good idea of sleeping under the Jeep, would have been a little crowded under a SWB. WJ - 1 SWB - 0
